Seamanship Quotation

“In political activity, then, men sail a boundless and bottomless sea; there is neither harbour for shelter nor floor for anchorage, neither starting-place nor appointed destination.”

Elder statesmen read the riot act to US Senate

Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, James Baker, Lawrence Eagleburger and Colin Powell not only support Obama’s New START treaty but offer fellow Republicans not a sliver of an excuse to oppose and vote against it. With barely concealed impatience they suggest that Republican leaders have plenty of domestic issues on which to take partisan advantage.
Delay seems to be the only response from Republican Senate leader, Mitch McConnell. Obama is winning the argument. The public generally wants the focus back on the economy. The President and Democratic leaders control the agenda and might as well insist on a vote on the new treaty right away.
